Setting up and verification

A salon professional holding a phone that shows her QR code for tips

Short answer: you give your legal name, date of birth, phone number and address when you sign up. Stripe, which processes the payments, checks your identity and asks for your bank account. The check usually takes a few minutes.

Why we ask for identity details

Anyone who receives card payments has to be identified under financial rules. TipIns passes the details you enter to Stripe so you do not have to type them twice. Some countries need more: nationality in the EU, EEA, Switzerland and Singapore; the last 4 digits of the Social Security number in the US; and a national ID number in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Mexico and Singapore.
