Tipping in Croatia

Short answer: Appreciated, not expected. Tipping in Croatia is not compulsory, but around 10% is a customary thank-you for good table service, and many people simply round up. Croatia uses the euro since 2023, so older guides quoting kuna amounts are out of date.

Is service included?

Restaurants do not usually add a service charge; tips are separate and voluntary. Since January 2024 tips can be added to a card payment and are recorded through the fiscal receipt system.

How to tip

Cash on the table or rounding up when you pay is still common, but card terminals increasingly offer a tip option, and card tipping has been possible since 2024. Most hospitality bills are now paid by card.

What to avoid

Do not feel pressured by preset percentages on the card terminal; tipping is voluntary and choosing a small amount or none is fine.

Work out a tip

The tip calculator is set to Croatia and the local currency: enter the bill, pick a percentage and split it between the table.

Tipping with no cash

When you have no local cash, ask whether a tip can go on the card. More and more guides, drivers and performers show a QR code instead: point your phone camera at it and you can tip by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay without installing anything.
